DESCRIPTION
  • This design was inspired by bandannas from the early 1910s to the late 1920s.
  • During this period, patterns shifted noticeably from the ornate plains bandannas toward influences that moved from Eurocentric to Americana.
  • The centre motif is simple, but the 3 to 1 change in black and white gives it character.
  • Instead of traditional bandanna motifs along the border, this piece features tattoo-style roses.
  • The strong lines and dotted gradations bring a subtle and playful detail to the design.
  • It is an interesting balance of old and new ideas, blending early bandanna structure with a fresh perspective.
