Antique Linen Sail Coat
This chore coat is our newest design, developed in direct response to the beautiful antique fabric that reminded Tony of sailcloth at first sight. The heavy French linen circa 1890 has been laundered, hung to dry and pressed countless times, creating a rare patina. The weight of this fabric creates a strong straight drape with a soft texture that is much more wrinkle resistant than modern linen. The dye has settled into a subtle sunshine-through-rippled-water pattern. The most distinctive design feature is the double faced pockets that wrap across the side panel. One of these pockets has a smaller stacked pocket underneath, and there is a single upper chest pocket. The swooping shape of all the pockets reminds us of old ships.
