Product Details: A 1930s-inspired workers’ blazer featuring a distinctive peaked lapel, crafted from a newly developed slub yarn cotton canvas and finished using Belafonte’s traditional Doromole mud-dye process. The jacket can be fully buttoned for a more contemporary, structured look, offering versatility while maintaining its vintage character. Mud dyeing is a meticulous and time-consuming craft. The base fabric is first soaked in a natural mordant made from plant seeds, helping the dye bind to the fabric and resist fading. Mud is then applied by hand to one side of the fabric, and the material is laid out to dry in the sun. Initially grey in tone, the fabric is stored indoors where the color slowly evolves into rich warm brown and rust hues over a period of approximately six months.
