The TYPE A-2 / ROUGHWEAR 27752 is a painstakingly detailed reproduction of Rough Wear’s iconic 1942 contract, number 27752.
Recognized as one of the most esteemed and influential A-2 contractors, Rough Wear set the standard for excellence in military outerwear.
This faithful recreation highlights every intricate detail of the original garment, showcasing the craftsmanship and design that earned the Rough Wear Clothing Co. brand its fame.
Between 1931 and 1943 there were a total of 18 manufacturers contracted to produce the TYPE A-2.
Rough Wear Clothing Co. secured five contracts and is estimated to have crafted 120,000 of the 750,000 A-2 jackets that were made.
Contract 27752, issued in 1942, represents Rough Wear's final procurement and a production run of 50,000 units.
For its era, the cut was unusually advanced: the collar is constructed with a reduced stand, allowing it to fall naturally forward against the chest, while the shoulder seams and sleeve heads are forward-pitched to follow the natural posture of the body.
Achieved through three-dimensional patterning techniques rarely encountered in military outerwear manufacturing.
The TYPE A-2 / ROUGHWEAR 27752 is made from vegetable-tanned, aniline-finished horsehide.
This piece features a cotton broadcloth lining, a 1940s-style bell-shaped nickel front zipper with cotton tape, wool ribbing, and is constructed using cotton thread.
