- Our NECKERCHIEF, MAN'S, KNITTED has been made from a soft handled 6.5oz cotton cloth.
- Our sinker knit fabric replicates stretchy jersey fabric that was developed shortly after the beginning of the Vietnam War.
- The introduction of the neckerchief to US soldiers followed Australia's entry into the war.
- Australian combat units utilised an absorbent cotton neckerchief, which served as the inspiration for its adoption within the US army.
- Subsequently, a formal request was made to the Tropical Combat Uniform board.
- Following the request, the experimental neckerchief would be meticulously crafted using cotton T-shirt material, dyed in OG (olive green), and knitted in a durable tubular, double-ply design.
- Prior to widespread distribution among troops, these neckerchiefs underwent rigorous testing.
- The Long Range Reconnaissance Patrol of the 1st Infantry Division, operating in the III Corps area of the Republic of Vietnam, trialed the neckerchief for a period of approximately 1 to 2 months.
- After completing the trial period, feedback was resoundingly positive and it was deemed acceptable for combat units.
- In supporting production, their responses were that beyond managing perspiration, it provided crucial sun protection during the day and defence against insects during the night.
