The Jungle Jacket was introduced in the early 1960s as a tropical combat uniform in response to the Vietnam War and continued to be used as standard issue in the United States for about 10 years after several updates.
The first generation Jungle Jacket was manufactured in 1963 and was made of 55 oz cotton poplin fabric, mostly in QG-107 color.
The most distinctive feature was the "exposed" buttons on the top pocket cover.
The first generation Jungle Jacket had epaulettes, an adjustment buckle at the waist, and a separate placket inside the door.
