- We are proud to finally be able to carry the Belafonte Sumimole dye garments!
- Each piece is slightly different because of the mud dye process of the fabric.
- Very unique and beautiful patina.
- The Sumimole fabric is similar to the popular doromole fabric.
- The difference is that the doromole fabric is based in a brown color twill, and dyed in mud - yet the sumimole fabric is based on a neutral color twill (off-white) and the fabric is dyed in real Japanese ink.
- It's a fascinating process.
- The base fabric is initially soaked in a natural mordant made from plant seeds which helps fix the dye to the fabric and prevent fading.
- The ink is then applied by hand to one side of the fabric and the fabric is laid out to dry in the sun.
- It takes 6 months in storage to fix the dye and to achieve this deep colour, after which the fabric is washed and sun dried once again.
- Expect incredible patina from this fabric when the mud fades (similar to indigo & denim) and the base color of the canvas shine through.
- Vintage inspired trousers with a high waist, suspender buttons, buckle back and split hem for a comfortable wear.

- made in a roomy silhouette with a straight leg adding an authentic feel to the fit.

- made in a beautiful 13oz rigid non-selvedge denim from Japan.
