DESCRIPTION
- Our newest selvage is a superb indigo herringbone weave.
- This is one of the most techinical and difficult weaves to master due to the precise nature of the loom setup.
- The pattern is achieved by reversing the direction of the twill weave at regular intervals, creating a zigzag effect.
- To create a herringbone pattern, the weft thread (horizontal) goes over and under two or more warp threads (vertical) in a repeated sequence.
- This sequence is then inverted every few threads, creating the characteristic zigzag.
- The loom must be precisely set up to ensure that the inversion of the twill direction happens at the correct intervals, which requires careful planning and a skilled hand.
- The herringbone weave results in a fabric that has a distinctive, textured feel, with a raised structure that is tactile and visually engaging.
