DESCRIPTION
  • This coat is inspired by soutache embroidery from the Victorian period.
  • Soutache is a type of decorative flat braid which was commonly used to ornament military uniforms.
  • Towards the end of the 19th century, it was adapted for decorative use and can be found on many capes, walking skirts, bodices, and jackets from the 1840s-1890s.
  • We reproduced a section of antique soutache embroidery, worked in rippling, feathered patterns, on this felted wool coat.
